TREC’s 5 MMSCFD CNG Mother Station to Power Nigeria’s Clean Energy Revolution

TREC (Transitions and Renewable Energy Company Limited) is on the verge of commissioning a landmark Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Mother Station in Omotosho, Ondo State, with a processing capacity of 5 million standard cubic feet per day (5 MMSCFD). Strategically sited on a 10-acre facility, the station is designed to serve as a central hub for CNG distribution across Nigeria. The selection of Ondo State for this flagship project was driven by a combination of strategic and economic factors, its proximity to existing gas pipelines, nearby industrial hubs, and key transportation corridors ensures seamless supply and efficient delivery to daughter stations nationwide.

A vital feature of the station includes an inlet gas dryer, high-capacity compressors, buffer storage units, and a trailer fill panel connected to pressurized tube cascade systems for safe and efficient CNG transportation. These trailer-mounted cascades will serve as the primary means of delivering clean energy to industrial clients, transport fleets, and off-grid facilities across the country.

Femadec Energy, a leader in Nigeria’s clean energy transition, is the major offtaker for the CNG produced at the TREC Mother Station. In collaboration with the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF) and the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), Femadec recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding to deploy CNG solutions across 20 Nigerian universities. The company is also developing its own CNG plant and actively seeking strategic partnerships to expand its reach. With existing agreements to fuel 100 CNG buses, 200 tricycles, and 24,000 vehicles, Femadec’s partnership with TREC will ensure a reliable, nationwide CNG supply chain anchored by refueling stations and robust distribution networks. This collaboration underscores a shared vision for a cleaner, more sustainable energy future in Nigeria.
